Industry to Hold Pinhook Days in Park Despite Ongoing Construction

Industry to Hold Pinhook Days in Park Despite Ongoing Construction
The new water tower sits ready and waiting to be installed.

The Village of Industry had planned to hold its annual Pinhook Days festival the weekend of June 14th and 15th in Pinhook Park—the usual place—but after additional consideration the date was changed to August 8-10th. The park is in the middle of an extensive, $600,000 remodel, which won’t be completed before the original Pinhook Days dates.

A committee that organizes Pinhook Days approached the board of trustees during the board’s May 8th meeting and asked for clarification as to whether the park would be available. There are vendors to contact, members of the committee said, and questions about where vehicles can park and whether electrical service for food trucks and entertainers will be available.

The board of trustees and Doug Erickson, project engineer for the park remodel, assured the committee the park would be available, along with the pavilion, electrical service, restrooms, and some new playground equipment. But some areas of the park would still have bare dirt and those areas won’t have new grass growing by the time of the festival if held in June.

In other business, Erickson briefed trustees on the ongoing construction of the village’s new water tower, which remains on schedule to be completed this year. In addition, Erickson said he expects to begin receiving contractor bids soon for the village’s new water meters, which trustees agreed to purchase due to widespread failure of the current meters. Once trustees decide on a contractor, Erickson hopes to see the meters installed and working within 90 days.

In the meantime, the village superintendent, Keith Gorsuch, and volunteers will continue manually reading every water meter in town each month. Staci Danner, board president, told trustees that manually reading the meters has gone faster than expected thus far.

During the meeting, trustees voted to give Gorsuch authority to spend up to $1,500 with Red Cardinal for chemicals needed for the lift station at the village’s sewer lagoon.

Finally, the board now has a new trustee: Candice Drummond. She was sworn in by the village’s attorney, Erin Wilson Laegeler, and replaces Beverly Stuckwisch.
