Macomb High sophomores Alex and Marc Simmons wrapped up their 2025 tennis season posting a 2-2 record in the Illinois High School Association Class 1A State Finals Thursday at Schaumburg High School.
The Simmons twins won their first match against junior Namit Mehta and senior Jon Park of (Glen Ellyn) Glenbard South 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
In the second round, the No. 3 seeded team of senior Wyatt Jurgensmeyer and junior Jordan Beck of Mascoutah defeated the Simmons brothers, 6-0, 6-1.
Dropping into consolation bracket play, Alex and Marc Simmons defeated seniors Samuel Pall and Owen Theriault of Aurora Marmion Academy, 6-3, 6-4 in their second round match.
The brothers saw their season end in what turned out to be their final match as the duo dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to senior Arnav Patel and junior Luke Yin of the (Aurora) Illinois Math and Science Academy.
Jurgensmeyer and Beck eventually finished in fourth place in the Class 1A doubles competition.
Patel and Yin defeated Dunlap’s William Song and Ethan Klemens 6-4, 6-2 in their next match before being eliminated by (Springfield) Sacred Heart-Griffin’s Evan Aleman and Adam Wheeling 7-5, 4-6, (11-9) Song and Klemens defeated the Simmons brothers in the sectional semifinals the previous week at Dunlap.
