Macomb High sophomore Marshaun Brown finished in an 11-way tie for 17th place in the high jump at Friday’s Illinois High School Association Class 2A State Track prelims.

Brown jumped 1.85 meters, or six feet, three-quarters of an inch in the competition held at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Sixteen of the 35 jumpers cleared 1.90m (6-2.75) in reaching the finals.

Brown tied for sixth in the high jump, with an effort of 1.87m (6-1.5) in sectional competition at Metamora. That matched the qualifying standard as set by the IHSA, allowing Brown to advance to state competition.

Senior Matt Pluff of Freeburg won the event, clearing 2.05m (6-8.75).
