James Brad Melvin, 76, formerly of Blandinsville, IL, passed away on May 15, 2025, in Portland, OR.
Brad was born on February 27, 1949. He served his country in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his military service, Brad pursued a career in aviation, retiring as a Captain from U.S. Airways after 35 years of flying passengers safely around the world.
Brad was preceded in death by his parents, Noma (Pearce) Melvin and James Kent Melvin, as well as his sister Sandee (Stanley “Jeb”) Pensinger.
He is survived by his brothers Max Melvin and Hal Melvin; his nephew Cal (Ashley) Melvin; his niece Karla (Matthew) Sullivan; and seven grand nieces and nephews: Cam, Addilyn, and Casen Melvin; Lainey, Audrey, Molly, and Nellie Sullivan.
As per Brad’s wishes, there will be no services. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
