One of the things that I emphasize in our spring gardening workshop is the importance of compost. A good compost provides needed nutrients to your plants and improves the texture and structure of the soil. Access to quality compost can be the difference between a decent garden and a truly great one.
The compost we purchase (from Better Earth Compost near Peoria) and use liberally in our gardens has been one of the Giving Gardens secrets to success for many years now. We are so pleased to be able to share it for free with community members.
The compost is available on the north end of Bonham St. where it ends at the railroad tracks. Please help yourself!
For reference, a semi load of our compost, about 40 cubic yards, costs $1700 delivered. Thanks to those of you who help us fund these kinds of purchases and special thanks to Fellheimer Trust for a generous grant helping us to purchase equipment, tools and supplies to expand our gardens.
