A Rally for Disability Care in ‘Gear Up Florida’ Journey

GEAR UP FLORIDA

*Miami, FL* — In a display of endurance and community spirit, a group of 30 dedicated cyclists embarked on an ambitious 1,000-mile journey across Florida, all in the name of supporting disability care organizations.

The event, known as ‘Gear Up Florida,’ kicked off in Miami on Saturday, May 17 where the cyclists set out to cover 80 miles to Boca Raton on the first day, followed by another 80-mile trek from Boca Raton to Clewiston the next day.

One of the team members on this trip was Dalton Deener, a passionate advocate for disability rights and care. “This ride is about more than just cycling. It’s about raising awareness and funds for organizations that provide essential services to people with disabilities,” said Deener.

The journey, spanning 15 days, features various legs that challenge the cyclists both physically and mentally. Each mile ridden contributes to a greater goal: enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. The group has been rallying support from local businesses and communities, emphasizing the importance of inclusion and accessibility. As Deener and his team made their way from Miami to Boca Raton, they were greeted by enthusiastic supporters along the route, many of whom joined in the ride for short stretches, showcasing a communal effort to uplift those in need.

The energy was palpable, with cheers and encouragement fueling the cyclists as they navigated through sunny streets and picturesque coastal views.

The second leg of their journey to Clewiston continued to build momentum, with Deener emphasizing the significance of the funds raised. “Every dollar counts.

It helps provide resources, training, and support for individuals and families who rely on these organizations,” he explained, highlighting a cause that resonates deeply within the community.

As the cyclists pushed through the miles, shared stories and mental fortitude helped them cycle through the humid Florida climate.

The participants range from seasoned cyclists to newcomers, all united by a common purpose.

With each passing day, the cyclists continue to advance their journey, stopping at various towns and cities, sharing their mission, and engaging with locals to spread the word about the importance of disability care. The ‘Gear Up Florida’ initiative not only promotes physical fitness but also fosters a spirit of advocacy and community involvement.

As they progress through the state, Deener remains focused on the ultimate goal of the ride, urging others to join in the efforts to support disability care. “This is just the beginning. We hope to inspire more people to get involved and make a difference in their communities,” he concluded, embodying the spirit of resilience and hope that drives the ‘Gear Up Florida’ campaign.

The cyclists are set to continue their journey as they aim to complete the full 1,000 miles, with each pedal stroke symbolizing their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities across Florida.

Their inspiring efforts serve as a reminder that together, we can make a meaningful impact.

There are 4 members from Western Illinois University on this trip, two of them being cyclists and the other two supporting the cyclists as crew members.

Deener, who is a graduate of MHS and WIU would like to thank the Community News Brief, Edasity Construction, the Ice House, and the Forgottonia Times for being local businesses who supported his trip.
