- Defamation: A false statement that is communicated to another person, damaging their reputation or livelihood. The statement must be presented as fact, not opinion.
- Libel: A written or pictorial form of defamation, such as a text story, cartoon, or blog post.
- Slander: An oral or spoken form of defamation, such as a speech or lecture.
• Letters attacking individuals without supporting documentation and legally defensible justification will not be printed.
• The Community News Brief reserves the right to the right to edit or refuse letters.
• Letters must be submitted electronically to communitybrief@ gmail.com or dropped off at 13 E. Side Square.
• Letters are limited to a maximum of 500 words. Letters exceeding 500 words could be edited/may not be published in their entirety.
• Letters to the Editor must include: Full name (include a signature if possible); mailing address; phone number and email. Your email, address and phone number will not be printed. This information is necessary for verification.
• Unsigned/anonymous letters will not be printed.
