The 2025 Macomb High girls soccer season ended much the same way it began.
Sort of. Advancing to their first-ever Illinois High School Association Class 1A Sectional, the Bombers ran into a buzzsaw, dropping a 9-0 decision to Williamsville in semifinal play Saturday afternoon at Monticello.
Macomb hosted Williamsville in its season opener back on March 18 at MHS Stadium with Williamsville winning 7-0.
Making the 135-mile trip to Piatt County for a second meeting against the Bullets, the Bombers found it tough going against the team that finished second in the Class 1A State Finals last season.
Macomb finished the season with a final record of 9-7-3. It included a second place finish at the East Peoria Tournament, along with the program’s first-ever regional title.
The Bombers will lose a number of key players to graduation, including leading scorers Kylie Robinson and Kate Stortzum, along with keeper Jesse Trost.
Williamsville improved to 21-5. The Bullets have a record of 80-23-2 in the past four years, including four regional titles.
Saturday’s first match had host Monticello defeating Athens/PORTA 4-0.
Monticello improved to 25-3 on the season, while Athens/PORTA finished the season with a 19-6 record.
Williamsville and Monticello were to play in the title match Tuesday with the winner advancing to Class 1A Supersectional play May 31 at Chillicothe.
The victor will face either Byron (17-3-2) or Rock Island Alleman (13-6-2) in the 10 a.m. contest.
Byron and Alleman square off Wednesday in sectional title play at Rock Island.
