The Macomb City Council on Monday accepted a quarterly report from the Macomb Police Department. The report covered the months of February through April.
Police received 4,361 calls for service and made 517 arrests. There were 32 theft cases, five burglaries, 11 cases of criminal damage to property, and 62 vehicle crashes. Police Chief Jeff Hamer said there were 30 calls for mental evaluation of subjects and four suicidal subjects. He said the laser elements of police tasers were deployed in four situations.
Macomb police were assisted by the Illinois State Police and Flock Safety in tracking down a three-year old kidnapped from a local apartment complex in Macomb. Flock used video from its series of license plate readers to map a trail through the streets of Chicago. The child was recovered unharmed. U.S. marshals separately tracked the kidnapping suspect and took him into custody.
Chief Hamer said his department now has 26 sworn officers, and that more than 150 hours during the quarter were spent reviewing body camera videos. He said that K-9 Jax was deployed five times, indicating the presence of narcotics and resulting in three seizures and two arrests. The police department impounded 35 vehicles and collected $21,040 in fees.
