MCUSD 185 Transportation Reminder for Parents, Guardians

MACOMB – Beginning July 1, Macomb Community Unit School District (MCUSD) No. 185 will begin operating its student transportation services in-house model. The Board of Education voted unanimously at its March meeting to nix the contract with Durham, effective June 30.

As part of the move to in-house transportation, parents/guardians of district students who require bus transportation must register their student(s) by May 23. According to Superintendent Mark Twomey, failing to sign up for bus services means a route will not be part of the system's daily route.

'In order to be successful, we must know which students require transportation and that is only possible through the registration process,' Twomey explained. 'We are asking every family to register by May 23. In addition, to ensure every student has a laptop available we must know the total number of students in the district as well, which makes it imperative that we have a specific student count as soon as possible. Please help us prepare for the 2025-2026 school year by completing your child's school registration today.'

To register, visit the district website: (macomb185.org) and click the Skyward button. If a parent/guardian does not have access to a Skyward account, or if login credentials are needed, please contact the student(s) school office on or before May 23.

In addition, the district is hiring additional drivers, using a multi-tiered recruitment approach, including social media, website, staffing agencies, job fairs and through word-of-mouth, according to District Operations Director Scott Schauble. Individuals interested in driving a bus and/ or would like more information, should email [email protected].

'As with anything community support is key,' Schauble added. 'We ask that residents help spread the word. We can, and will, make scheduling requests work. If someone can only drive a few days a week, we'll pair that person with another who also requested a few days so there is a full-time driver between two people. We simply need community members who are willing to help us get children to, and from, school safely.'
